Western University Film Studies Five-Minute Film Festival

Film Studies at Western invites London and area high school students to submit five-minute videos on any subject and of any genre, narrative and non-narrative to the Western’s Five-Minute High School Film Competition.

Eligibility: Students enrolled in Grade 11 or 12 in a London or area high school

A panel of Western Film Studies professors will award prizes to films based on:

The top TEN films will be screened at our Five-Minute High School Film Festival in the NBCUniversal Canada screening room on January 23, 2014.

Awards, including a Viewer’s Choice Award, will be presented following the screening. The First-Prize film will also be screened in a special category at the annual Western Undergraduate Film Students’ Festival in the Spring of 2014.

Films, completed entry forms and a 200-250 word rationale for your production are to be submitted as Mp4 files on DVD by November 18th, 2013 to:

All submissions to Western’s Five-Minute High School Film Festival must be original works and/or have all necessary permissions to the material contained in the film, including but not limited to: all music, artwork, clips, and all depictions of persons. When dealing with your submission we understand that you are the creator of the film and that you have received permission to use all material within the film. Do not submit a film that contains material you do not have the right to use.
