Biology 405/4405: Ecosystem Ecology (0.5 FCE)
Ecosystem Ecology introduces students to a systems approach to the study of ecology. I adopted a holistic approach to the interactions and transactions within and among ecological systems, using practicing ecologists to illustrate how research findings are achieved. The course was designed to provide students with theory and practice through an innovative combination of lectures, seminars, documentaries and discussion boards brought together on WebCT. Students are taught to be critical and creative thinkers, to demonstrate academic expertise in the theory and practice of ecosystem ecology, to work positively on individual and group projects, and to use their scientific understanding and knowledge to make positive contributions to society.
