1. What is the Diploma in Computer Science?

Western's Department of Computer Science and Western Continuing Studies offer a Diploma program for qualified university graduates with a background in Mathematics, Statistics, Science or Engineering. Students who complete the Diploma will have the fundamental knowledge and skills needed for designing and developing software. Upon completion of the Diploma, those with superior academic records who wish to pursue further studies may apply for admission to the MSc in Computer Science.

2. What are the minimum admission requirements?

An undergraduate degree from an accredited university, preferably in science or engineering, plus CS 1026 and 1027 with a minimum grade of 70%.
Once accepted, a student is required to maintain an overall average of 70%, with no single grade below 60%.

Please Note: This is a competitive program with limited enrollment. Meeting the minimum admission criteria does not guarantee admission into the program.

3. When do I apply?

The application deadline is March 1. Applicants who must apply for admission to Western University first are encouraged to begin the application process as soon as possible. Application forms are typically available by November.

Classes begin in September for the duration of eight months.

4. When will I know if my application has been accepted?

All decisions regarding admission to the program are communicated in writing. Admission decisions may take approximately 6-8 weeks after receipt of all application documents. Applicants are strongly encouraged to ensure all pieces of both the supplemental application, as well as the OUAC application (where applicable), arrive well before the application deadline. Decisions will not be relayed over the telephone.  

5. How long do I have to complete the program?

The Diploma in Computer Science is structured to be completed in eight months.

6. Is this program eligible for OSAP?

The application for OSAP is currently pending.

7. Can I take courses before being admitted to the program?

Students who have completed required courses prior to being admitted to the Diploma program may apply for equivalency for up to two (2) courses.

8. I have been working in a Computer Science related field for a few years. Do I still need an undergraduate degree to apply?

Yes, an undergraduate degree is a prerequisite to apply.
