Eric Morse is a Professor of Entrepreneurship and the Executive Director of the Morrissette Institute for Entrepreneurship at the Ivey Business School. He served as Associate Dean (Programs) for a six-year term, which ended in 2014. Prior to that, Morse was the Inaugural Director of the Morrissette Institute for Entrepreneurship, a post he returned to July 2015. He is the founder of and the Academic Director for Ivey and KPMG Enterprise’s QuantumShiftTM Program for Exceptional Entrepreneurs.

Lisa Cechetto is the new Executive Director of WORLDiscoveries. With more than 10 years of patent and business development-related experience, Cechetto has worked in both industry and academia. Her most recent appointment was Director of Business Development and Intellectual Property at Institute Pasteur Korea. In this role, she was responsible for the commercialization of the institute’s research inputs while balancing the interests of key stakeholders including government, faculty and third parties.

Ian Haase is the Director of Entrepreneurship and manages Propel, the on-campus business accelerator and co-working space. Prior to his Western, Haase spent four years working at the Regional Innovation Centre (RIC) TechAlliance, assisting numerous early stage technology companies while managing the day-to-day operations of the Startup Services team. Throughout his career, he has personally assisted more than 350 startup companies, and was the founder and CEO of Spatial Solutions, a software company based in Montreal.

He is the Chair of the basic Science Division of the Department of Medical Imaging In 2010 he became the Centre Director and CEO of the newly formed Centre for Imaging Technology Commercialization – a federally funded Centre of Excellence in Commercialization and Research. Currently, he is the Centre Director and its Chief Scientific Officer. Fenster has spun off tow companies from his lab: Life Imaging Systems and Enhance Vision System. He has 51 patents issued and pending and has licensed some of these patents to 13 different companies.

Jason Winders is Director (Editorial Services), where he helps writers and editors across campus tell the university’s story to a variety of audiences across numerous platforms. Prior to joining Western in 2010, Winders was the Executive Director of the Athens (Ga.) Banner-Herald. He has spent 25 years in journalism, including reporting and editing roles in Illinois, Alabama, North Carolina and Georgia.

Kelly Cole is Vice-President (External), working directly with the Campaign Executive Committee, senior leadership and External Relations team to lead the university’s Be Extraordinary campaign. Previously, she was the Executive Director of Advancement for the Ivey Business School. She has 23 years of development experience, including stints with The Fundraising Network and West Park Healthcare Centre Foundation in Toronto.

Burns Cheadle is an Associate Professor of Earth Sciences and the Director of Corporate Relations and Student Professional Development for the Faculty of Science. After receiving his PhD from Western in 1986, Cheadle worked in the upstream oil and gas industry, achieving successes in technical, leadership and entrepreneurial roles. In 2009, he led the development of the petroleum component of Resource Geoscience Western. In his role, Burns creates and coordinates experiential and reflective learning initiatives aimed at developing professional competencies — including entrepreneurship and innovation — in undergraduate and graduate students in the Faculty of Science.

Carole Orchard is a professor and coordinator of Interprofessional Health Education & Research for the Faculty of Health Sciences and Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. Her research focuses on inter-professional patient-centred collaborative practice. She is part of an international team working to develop audit tools to assess the process of collaboration in teams.

Kamran Siddiqui is a Mechanical and Materials Engineering professor. His research expertise is in thermo-fluids and energy systems. Siddiqui has been working with WORLDiscoveries since 2011 for patenting and commercialization of innovative technologies developed in his research lab. He gained expertise in commercialization through involvement in the patenting and commercialization of two novel solar energy technologies and has gained entrepreneurial experience through the establishment of a spinoff company with the assistance of WORLDiscoveries to commercialize these technologies.

Ting-Yim Lee is a Medical Imaging professor in the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. He has developed medical image analysis software to provide functional information for the diagnosis and management of stroke, cancer and heart attack. The software has been licensed to GE Healthcare for the past 18 years and has gained a significant market share in this segment of diagnostic software.

Elizabeth Gillies is a professor the departments of Chemistry and Chemical and Biochemical Engineering. Her research program focuses on the development of new polymeric materials and their application in areas such as the delivery of drugs and agricultural products, antibacterials and tissue engineering. She has worked collaboratively with industrial partners such as LANXESS, Xerox and 3M over the past several years and currently holds five patent applications related to this and other work.

Communications Sciences and Disorders professor Susan Scollie was recently awarded the Innovator of the Year Awards, part of the WORLDiscoveries inaugural Vanguard Awards, for her work with the Desired Sensation Level method for assisting audiologists with fitting the proper hearing aid.

Blaine Alexander Chronik - Blaine Chronik is working with industry partners to develop customized MRI systems optimized for specific applications like stroke. The team’s initial focus is on developing a portable, head-only scanner customized for clinical neuroimaging.

As part of Western’s Bone and Joint Institute, Chronik’s team is also developing and testing MR-compatible medical devices and technologies – like pacemakers and orthopaedic implants – for use within these customized systems.

Len Luyt started as a Senior Medicinal Chemist with the pharmaceutical company Bayer-Schering and joined Western in 2005 with appointments in the departments of Oncology, Chemistry and Medical Imaging. He has published 40 journal articles, five book chapters and has more than 100 conference abstracts. Luyt holds 10 granted or applied patents and was awarded the Early Researcher Award (ERA) from the Ministry of Research and Innovation. He is the Senior Oncology Scientist at the London Regional Cancer Program and co-founder of start-up Eravon Therapeutics.

Juan Luis Suarez holds a joint appointment in the departments of Modern Languages and Literature and Computer Sciences. An internationally recognized scholar, Suarez is the Director of the CulturePlex Laboratory, which explores how culture affects the spread of ideas and changes the ways people think and behave. He is a creative, multidisciplinary collaborator who has established extensive and wide-ranging, international connections. He is also an entrepreneur, having developed software tools for creative industries, and was co-founder of Milao Language, a language learning start-up.

Jun Yang teaches in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering and the Biomedical Engineering Program. His research interests include additive manufacturing/3D printing, printed electronics, metamaterials, flexible/wearable electronics, MEMS/NEMS/BioMEMS, sensors and actuators, micro/nanofabrication, surface engineering and lab-on-a-chip. His research has been highlighted broadly in scientific news. Three of his inventions have been successfully licensed to industry.

Dr. Leslie Linton is an Adjunct Assistant Research Professor in the Don Wright Faculty of Music. She has taught various music education courses to undergraduate, graduate, and preservice students in both the Music and Education faculties. She taught for more than 20 years in diverse settings such as independent studio teaching and elementary music education in both public and private schools in various locations including London, Hamilton, Ottawa, Winnipeg, and Calgary.

Shawn Li is a professor in the departments of Biochemistry, Chemistry and Oncology at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. He is mapping the landscape for the epigenetic changes associated with chemotherapy. This information will be used to identify novel targets for more effective cancer treatment, and was name one of Canada’s Top 10 Cancer Research Stories of 2013 by the Canadian Cancer Society.

Chemical and Biochemical Engineering professor Hugo I. de Lasa explores the application of chemical and photochemical reactor engineering to environmentally friendly processes and products. His work has resulted in numerous successfully patented inventions, including the CREC-Riser Simulator; Pseudoadiabatic Catalytic Reactor; CREC-Optiprobes; and Photo-CREC reactors. In 2003, de Lasa founded Recat Technologies Inc. with the goal of commercializing CREC innovations worldwide. Today, his inventions are used in industry and research laboratories across the globe, including in North America, Spain, Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Costa Rica.

Dwayne Martins, Chief Operating Officer at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, has extensive experience working in an academic health-care environment. He has developed close collaborations with multiple hospitals, communities and various levels of government, including the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. Martins has established many formal business agreements with industry partners.

Walter Siqueira is an associate professor in Schulich Dentistry and Department of Biochemistry. An expert on saliva and salivary components, he capitalizes on recent technological advances to develop new products and technologies to improve patient health. As a dental clinician-scientist, he integrates basic science with applied clinical research to promote entrepreneurship and knowledge translation.
