Current Academic Program: Master of Science, Queen's University, School of Kinesiology and Health Studies
Next Steps: A career focused on the health and well-being of Indigenous communities.
Why I chose Western Health Sciences: I chose Western Health Sciences because of the breadth of courses they offer to prepare you for your future career and the freedom you have as an undergraduate student to choose what suits your needs. There are courses that provide you with the theoretical knowledge you need to go into several different fields, including medicine, public health, and research.
How my Western Experience prepared me for the next steps in my career: Western prepared me for pursuing an advanced degree because it is a large enough university to provide the kinds of resources you need to succeed at the graduate school level, while offering small enough class sizes that you can really benefit from the immense knowledge that faculty have.
My favourite Western memory: Joining a team of researchers from Western as they conducted a research project in Peru. Not only did I get an opportunity to learn hands-on research skills, but I also got to see Machu Picchu!
Best thing about being a student at Western: Western delivers on being the best student experience through its incredible learning environment. The university becomes a community you belong to, where fellow students and faculty help foster a positive space where you can continue to develop your strengths and find your passion.
My advice to future Western students: Western Health Sciences is a fantastic program
that will help you grow as a person. Once you make your decision, speak with
professors about available volunteer opportunities. Often times, these will
lead to unique experiences that will ultimately shape your future career
choices in the health field.
