Course Overload

Special permission for course overloads may be granted the the academic counsellors in the School of Health Studies. These requests are assessed on a case-by-case basis.


The normal full-time course load is 5.0 courses, balanced over the two terms so that at student is attending no more than 5.0 full or half courses at one time. The academic counsellor may grant special permission for an overload (5.5 or 6.0 courses) if evidence exists of a strong academic record with a minimum average of 80% and a solid rationale for requiring the extra course. Students not eligible for course overload in the first term of an academic year may qualify in the second term if appropriate academic progress has been made.


Students may take a maximum of 3.0 courses in the summer if:

As summer courses are already condensed, summer overload should only be considered in unique circumstances. Special permission may be granted for summer overloads for students with an outstanding academic record. Contact an academic counsellor for more information.
