Mosquito treatment

May 22, 2018

Between May 25 to May 26, 2018 Abell Pest Control will conduct a larviciding program under the authority of the Local Medical Officer of Health to control larval mosquitos. The granular formulation of the larvicide VectoBac pcp #18158 (Bacillus thuringiensis) will be placed in standing water of pond behind Gibbons Lodge. The pellet formulation of Altosid #21809 (Methoprene) will be placed in 458 storm drains located on University campus property between streets Windemere/Adelaide to Windemere/Western Road and Western Road/Platts Lane.

All larvicide will be applied by applicators, licensed by the Ministry of the Environment or supervised technicians. For details on exact locations and dates of treatment call 519-680-7766.

During the summer, Facilities Management will be working to mitigate the mosquito population on campus. Areas of standing water, particularly catch basins, are being monitored and treated to disrupt larva development. The goal is to reduce mosquito populations to tolerable levels, which helps decrease the risk of mosquito-borne disease and nuisance mosquito species to the campus community and our visitors.
