Ontario Global Edge Program

The Ontario Global Edge Program gives students a first-hand opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship and the role of small and medium-sized businesses in a global economy.

The Ministry of Economic Development, Employment & Infrastructure provides grants to selected, publicly funded postsecondary institutions, including Western, to deliver the program. Ontario Global Edge aims to:

Internships will range in length between 12 and 16 weeks.  Selected Ontario Global Edge participants will receive up to $4,000 to support the costs associated with the internship.


Students who will be considered for the Ontario Global Edge program must:

  • Be between the ages of 19 and 29
  • Be Canadian citizens or permanent residents
  • Be of the age of majority for the country in which the international placement will occur
  • Be full-time post-secondary students, as defined by Western University
  • Be planning to return to Ontario following the completion of the placement
  • Possess prior entrepreneurial experience or an interest in entrepreneurial endeavours
  • Be in good academic standing with Western University with an academic average of at least 70%


Eight internships are being offered in summer 2015.

Full job descriptions for the internships will be posted on the CareerCentral website on November 28, 2014.

Internships are unpaid. Selected students will receive up to $4,000 to support their living and travel expenses. It is the intention of the program that students incur minimal out-of-pocket expenses during their placements.

All selected students will receive support and assistance with travel logistics and accommodation arrangements, pre-departure orientation and re-entry sessions from the Student Success Centre and Western International.


To view and apply to the international internship opportunities, go to CareerCentral and login with your Western ID and password.  Select the “Experience” tab and then the “Ontario Global Edge” tab.  The OGE tab opens to students on November 28, 2014.


Applicants must meet all eligibility criteria. Students will apply through the Career Central website.

Selection Criteria:

  • Past entrepreneurial experience
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit
  • Leadership skills
  • Interest in an international or intercultural experience

Participation Requirements:

  • If selected as an international intern, participate in a pre-departure orientation session
  • Attend re-entry session following internship
  • Participate in public engagement activities to discuss experience (i.e. intern panel, class presentation, published article, testimonial, etc.)
