Sponsor/Award: CANADIAN BREAST CANCER RESEARCH ALLIANCE - IDEA GRANT - 2009 FALL COMPETITION

Grant Amount: $100K FOR ONE YEAR
Deadline: Dean's: Oct 18, 2009
Internal: Oct 25, 2009
Sponsor's: Nov 01, 2009

Subject Areas: Prevention And Health Promotion, Quality Of Life, Breast Cancer, Treatment, Medical
Description:

IDEA grants will support innovative, new research ideas that are speculative, but have the potential for advancing scientific knowledge, breaking new ground in perspectives or theory, challenging existing understandings, or opening significant new areas of research. Applications are invited from the entire continuum of breast cancer research, from basic science to prevention, treatment and care, insofar as the proposed idea has the potential to help prevent breast cancer, improve survival and enhance quality of life. As well, applications are invited from all sectors, from community-based groups to established researchers.

IDEA grants will support small-scale short-term pilot studies or investigation of concepts to permit the investigator to explore or test out new ideas, which although based on good science, are outside of existing conventional research paradigms and could be deemed speculative. The expectation is that these ideas once explored, will lead to the development of proposals for feasibility grants or operating grants. It is not the intent of the program to provide supplemental, add-on funding in support of existing, ongoing investigations.

Application Details:

The purpose of the IDEA grants program is to encourage novel approaches to any field of breast cancer research. These research proposals should encompass new, unique or unusual approaches to the study of any aspect of breast cancer. Proposals may be innovative in a variety of ways, including the following: - Research that involves new paradigms, challenges existing paradigms or looks at an existing problem from a new perspective or using novel research methods. - Small-scale pilot studies that test out or explore an idea or construct to see if it holds potential for further study, prior to undertaking a feasibility study. - Short-term projects that develop and evaluate new hypotheses, new methods, or new constructs, or appraise the adaptation of research methods in new applications. - Explorations of the application of knowledge from another area of science to problems and issues in breast cancer.

Applications to the Canadian Breast Cancer Research Alliance (CBCRA) IDEA grant competition are to be submitted on Form 810/09. One original copy with original signatures, and 15 complete photocopies, must be submitted before the deadline date.

INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS PROGRAM.

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
