Deadline: Dean's: Oct 30, 2009
Internal: Nov 06, 2009
Sponsor's: Nov 13, 2009

Subject Areas: Cellular Therapy, Animal Models, Stem Cells, Tissue Injury, Repair or Replacement
Description:

Funded by the Network of Centres of Excellence (NCE) since 2001, the Stem Cell Network (SCN)?s mission is to act as a catalyst for enabling translation of stem cell research into clinical applications, commercial products or public policy. In order to complement its Core Research Program, SCN is launching a new research initiative, the Impact Grant Program, which is aimed at funding one year research projects that are partnered and that have high potential for translational impact while addressing the Network?s mission. In order to receive SCN funds, successful applicants must execute a Standard NCE Network Agreement, through which they will become a member of the Stem Cell Network, and take on all of the associated rights and obligations. These obligations include the requirement to provide SCN office with a project report as requested.

Clinical Translation Impact Grants are aimed at projects that develop novel cellular or therapeutics stem cell approaches to tissue repair and regeneration within specific disease model. Proposals must clearly identify the translational ?bench to bedside? path of the research and where the proposed research stands along the path. Projects that principally involve basic research are not encouraged. Partnerships with health charities, non-federal government organizations or industry are a necessary component of the project.

Application Details:

The Stem Cell Network is now conducting an open call for Impact Research Grants in three specific areas. Impact Grants are reviewed every three months; deadlines for application are indicated in the application guidelines. The Network expects to fund 10-20 impact grants over the next four years. Application forms can be obtained for all Impact Research Grants by contacting Sophie Charg? at scharge@stemcellnetwork.ca.

To submit a Clinical Translation Impact Grant, the application must be supported by at least one eligible partner. NCE eligible sources include corporations and not-for- profit organizations, and government, but exclude the following Federal funds (Granting Councils, CFI, other NCEs, Genome Canada). Deliver completed proposal by e-mail to scharge@stemcellnetwork.ca by midnight on the due date. Letters of support can be either included in the application package as PDF files, or sent directly by email to scharge@stemcellnetwork.ca, or sent to SCN office by express mail by the due date.

INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT LEVIED ON THIS PROGRAM

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
