Description:

Catalyst Research Grants fund projects that have a high impact clinical, commercial, public policy or training outcomes and which generate preliminary data or seed fund an initiative that will be the basis for future funding applications to Stem Cell Network core projects, industry, charities or other eligible NCE sources of partner funding.

All catalyst projects must clearly fall within at least one of the four SCN research Strategic Programs: Cellular Therapeutics, Pharmacological Applications, Technology Development; and Public Policy, Ethical, Legal & Social Issues. The Network expects to announce awards within two months of application and funding of projects is expected to start within one month of announcement.

Application Details:

Catalyst project applications are reviewed quarterly by the Network's Research Management Committee against the following criteria: relevance to a Network Strategic Program, relevance to the SCN Catalyst Program, research excellence and project plan. In order to receive funds, successful applicants must execute a Standard NCE Network Agreement, through which they will become a member of the Stem Cell Network, and take on all of the associated rights and obligations.

An applicant must be eligible to receive grant funding from CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC. While partnered projects are not required for catalyst projects, partners will greatly strengthen the application. Greater weight will be attached to partnerships that would likely not have come about in the absence of the Network. For exceptional proposals, the SCN may consider increasing its investment to a maximum of $100,000 to match third party partner investments, or where there is an extraordinary degree of participation in the project from the user sector.

INDIRECT COSTS WILL NOT BE LEVIED ON THIS PROGRAM

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
