Description:

The CIHR Catalyst Grant program provides seed money, on a short-term basis, to support health research activities which represent a first step towards the pursuit of more comprehensive funding opportunities.

The purpose of this funding opportunity is to encourage applications from nominated principal applicants who are new investigators1 entering the field of ethics of health and health research, or investigators new to the field of ethics of health and health research2, by offering one or two-year pilot project grants. Investigators new to the field with limited publication in ethics will be reviewed as if they were new investigators. It is expected that this targeted investment will enable researchers to launch research in ethics, with a view to successful future applications to other CIHR competitions in ethics.

Application Details:

Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) will not be considered through this program. For projects of a high risk nature, the potential for great scientific gain should offset the risk of failure. There should be minimal or no overlap with other funded work.

Within the framework of the overall objectives of the CIHR Catalyst Grant Program, the specific objectives of this funding opportunity are: * To encourage applicants to embark on research in ethics that could lead to successful future applications for operating grants; * To develop broad themes in the areas of interest using relevant methodologies; * To promote conceptual and/or empirical research from a wide range of disciplinary perspectives; * To encourage post-doctoral trainees to apply as co-applicants. Relevant Research Areas: * To undertake research in ethics as relating to health or health research and/or to health policy;

INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS PROGRAM

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures).
