Sponsor's: Apr 06, 2010

Description:

To accelerate the pre-competitive development of promising technology and promote its transfer to Canadian companies. Projects are designed to advance promising concepts or technologies to attract early-stage investment and/or build intellectual property

Any technology proposed in Phase I projects must be sufficiently mature, have its basic parameters already explored and have undergone sufficient testing to establish its potential to work in a product environment.

Application Details:

Discoveries must be disclosed by the investigators according to institution policy and the Industry liaison office must endorse each proposal.

Phase I proposals require a plan describing how partnership will be established with a Canadian company with the capacity to commercialize the research results. Although not required, a demonstration of partner interest may strengthen the proposal. Phase I proposals must be based on strong scientific evidence and present the following elements: - The basic parameters of the concept must have already been explored and sufficient testing should have been done to assess its potential to work in a ?product? environment. - The intellectual property must be protected (existing patent, etc.) or protection should have been applied for. There may be situations in which patent protection may not be the ideal course of action; these cases should be fully justified in the application. -There must be a clearly identified and well-described potential market. Letters of support from potential clients may be very useful. -The prospective competition must be identified.

INDIRECT COSTS NOT LEVIED ON NSERC PORTION OF THIS PROGRAM

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures).
