Sponsor/Award: NETWORK CENTRES OF EXCELLENCE - MITACS ACCELERATE PROGRAM: INTERNSHIP CLUSTER - 2010 OPEN COMPETITION

Grant Amount: $7.5K PER FOUR MTHS
Deadline: Dean's: Contact your Faculty Research Office for deadline details.
Internal: N/A
Sponsor's: N/A

Subject Areas: Industry, Multidisciplinary
Description:

In recognition of the growing demand from professors to support multiple graduate students and/or post-doctoral fellow through a larger research project in collaboration with one or more industry partners, MITACS has introduced Internship Cluster. Internship clusters require a minimum of $30,000 from a partner and provide enhanced funding leverage combined with the ACCELERATE Program?s flexibility. Please speak directly with a Business Development Director to discuss your particular project and learn more information. The intern, under the supervision of a faculty member, spends approximately half of his/her time over a minimum four-month period onsite with an eligible Ontario partner (a company, industry association, not-for-profit or crown corporation) or in the field, developing a better understanding of a jointly-identified research problem of importance to the company. The balance of the intern?s time is spent at the university with a professor, developing a solution to the organization?s challenge.

The company?s contribution of $7.5K per four-month internship unit is matched by MITACS, with funding support from the Government of Ontario and the Government of Canada. The intern receives a minimum of $10K of the $15K in funding, with the remaining $5K supporting other costs associated with the project.

Application Details:

This innovative internship program funds 4-, 8-, 12-, 16- or 24- month research projects. MITACS ACCELERATE is open to all university faculties and departments that train graduate students including Arts, Engineering, Humanities, Physical Sciences, Applied Sciences, Social Sciences and many more.

Although internship proposals are accepted at any time, it is strongly recommended that proposals are submitted at least 6 weeks in advance of the anticipated project start date. This will allow adequate time for peer-review and transfer of funds to the university. The MITACS business development team will assist you with the application process.

INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS PROGRAM.

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
