Sponsor's: N/A

Subject Areas: Health And Wellbeing, Policy Development, Disease Control, Food Management, Biodiversity, Health Care, Sustainable Development
Description:

The Ecosystem Approaches to Human Health Program at Canada's International Development Research Centre supports research on the relationships between all components of an ecosystem to define and assess priority problems that affect the health of people and the sustainability of the ecosystems they depend upon. In seeking to improve human health and well-being while simultaneously maintaining a healthy ecosystem, the emphasis is on designing solutions based on ecosystem management rather than health sector interventions. Individuals or research centres interested in IDRC support should begin by familiarizing themselves with IDRC's approach and program priorities. We strongly recommend that you contact a program officer working in the most relevant IDRC program area early on in your deliberations to ensure closeness of fit between your area of interest and IDRC's program priorities.

IDRC's principal approach is to support projects and partnerships proposed by developing-country research institutions. However, this does not exclude South-North partnerships, and Canadian institutions can propose an initiative in collaboration with one or more developing-country partners. Researchers at Canadian universities should refer to Information for Canadian Researchers on the Sponsor's website. A key focus is broadening policy horizons through creating opportunities for learning, placing new ideas on the agenda and encouraging researchers to engage with policy issues.

Application Details:

Please monitor the IDRC website for new programming and funding opportunities beginning in April 2010. New ideas submitted to the Ecohealth PI are reviewed twice yearly (The last intake deadline was June 1, 2009. Dates for 2010 are to be confirmed). If your idea is of interest to IDRC for possible funding, a Program Officer will initiate a follow-up discussion within 6 weeks of the submission deadline. It is strongly recommended that research teams contact a Research Development Officer for further information before applying for funding from IDRC. Starting a dialogue early in the project development process will help to ensure closeness of fit between the research team's area of interest and the Program priorities.

Only those who have submitted a successful "idea" will be invited to complete a full research application. Please visit the IDRC website for more information.

INDIRECT COSTS OF 13% MUST BE INCLUDED IN THE PROJECT BUDGET

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
