Description:

To offer undergraduate students an opportunity to study and learn the techniques of historical research and to encourage future serious study of medical history. We welcome applications from students enrolled in all undergraduate faculties in universities in Canada. Students must be registered in a recognized undergraduate program at a Canadian university. Any full time undergraduate student is eligible to apply provided the proposed project and supervisor meet the criteria outlined in the guidelines.

Three month summer studentships in the amount of $5,500 are available to undergraduate students registered in a Canadian university for a closely supervised project in the history of medicine. The complete application for a Hannah Studentship consists of the sections listed in order below. The Application Form and Candidate?s Statement are pre-printed; all other sections require the information on attached sheets and formatted as described under the heading Presentation. See guidelines for more details.

Application Details:

Funding is in the form of a stipend only, to a maximum of $5,500. The award may be held for a period of three consecutive months during the academic summer recess (May-August). Payment is made to the institution where the student is registered. Awardees will in turn be paid by the institution in accordance with its distribution policy. These awards are considered to be taxable income by the Canadian government.

Applications must be received by February 01 2011, at the office of the Secretary-Treasurer of the CSHM, Prof. Dan Malleck, PhD c/o Community Health Sciences - Brock University. Applications by FAX or electronic mail are not acceptable. Six copies (6) of the complete application are to be sent to AMS. One copy should have all original signatures. Please use either a single staple or large spring clip to contain each application set. An electronic copy of all parts of the application as a single PDF on diskette or CD-ROM must also be submitted . The CD ROM and the wrapper /case must be labeled with the name of the applicant and the date. AMS strongly recommends that applicants forward the Research Ethics Approval Certificate at the same time as the full application form. In the case where this is not feasible, the Research Ethics Approval Certificates must be submitted to the AMS before any funds will be released. AMS requires the submission of the Original Research Ethics Approval Certificate.

INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS PROGRAM

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
