Description: |
The purpose of the Social Media Interventions for Tobacco Prevention and Cessation grants competition is to develop innovative tobacco cessation programs and programs that prevent people from taking up smoking by supporting studies of tobacco interventions and processes that utilize social media. Applicants are invited to submit proposals for studies of how to utilize novel tobacco control programs that employ social media as interventions and/or reach strategies. The research must include an evaluation plan, a knowledge translation strategy, and a partnership with policy, program delivery or advocacy experts. Funding will be provided to support the direct costs of research, including supplies, expenses and wages associated with the proposed work. Indirect costs will not be considered eligible expenses. |

Application Details: |
Applications are invited from researchers working across numerous disciplines to undertake work that will modify tobacco use behaviours, thus affecting cancer risk related to a broad array of cancers. Successful applicants are expected to work in partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society in order to accelerate the translation of the research results into the Society?s tobacco cessation and prevention programs. Social media is defined as conversations and interaction between people online through highly accessible and scalable web-based technologies. Applicants will be asked to complete a Letter of Intent (LOI) form prior to the submission of a full proposal. The LOI form will require information on the proposed project title and summary of the proposed research, a preliminary budget, the names of the investigators, the host institution and suggested reviewers. The online LOI form will be accessible through the CCSRI website (www.cancer.ca/research). The CCSRI will confirm receipt of all LOIs Please note that changes to the applicant list after the LOI deadline are permitted, but must be provided to the CCSRI as they are determined. The LOI must meet the eligibility requirements for the Social Media Interventions for Tobacco Cessation and Prevention grant competition.INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT LEVIED ON THIS PROGRAM |

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures).
