Description:

Biomedical Research Grants provide financial support to medical researchers to assist in defraying the operating costs of research, which may include the purchase of materials, supplies and equipment and the payment of laboratory assistants.

The Biomedical Research Grants Guidelines 2012 Competition, supersede all previous Kidney Foundation of Canada Biomedical Research Grants Guidelines. Applicants should always refer to the latest version. Priority announcements offer funding that are relevant to specific research priority areas. Applications are submitted through The Kidney Foundation of Canada Biomedical Research Grant 2012 Competition. The KFOC and The NephCure Foundation will co-fund excellent applications that are determined to be relevant to the following research areas: Understanding the cause, mechanism and treatment of primary forms of FSGS as well as investigations of the mechanisms of normal glomerular biology or pathobiology that can be applied commonly to all forms of glomerular disease. These investigations will be applicable to identifying treatments of minimal change disease and primary FSGS.

Application Details:

Grants are available for one, two or three years, commencing July 1, for up to $50,000 per year. The research must be carried out in Canada.

Though applicants at all stages of their research career are eligible for funding, The Kidney Foundation wishes to give priority to new investigators in the field of kidney and urinary tract research. This is defined by the fact, that at the time of application, the applicants have held their first faculty position for no more than 36 months. In such cases, the application should be accompanied by a letter from the Departmental Chair indicating the nature of the university appointment, the facilities being provided and the research potential of the candidate. The candidate is also encouraged to request a letter from the most recent research supervisor describing the candidate's training and research potential. All applicants are strongly advised to carefully read and follow the instructions and requirements outlined in the Biomedical Research Grants Guidelines and the Biomedical Research Grants Checklist page of the application form.

INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS PROGRAM

NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission.
