Description:

This National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Research Announcement (NRA), entitled Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) - 2010, solicits basic and applied research in support of NASA's Science Mission Directorate (SMD).

The LCLUC program is developing interdisciplinary approaches combining aspects of physical, social, and economic sciences, with a high level of societal relevance, using remote sensing tools, methods, and data. One of its stated goals is to develop the capability for periodic satellite-based inventories of land cover and monitoring and characterizing land-cover and land-use change. Additional information on the NASA LCLUC program can be found at http://lcluc.hq.nasa.gov. This solicitation will run in parallel with the European Space Agency (ESA) call for "innovative projects" focused on Sentinel-1 and -2. Selections from this European innovative projects call will be made by ESA in October 2014. The nominal three-month separation in time between the NASA and ESA selections will allow NASA proposers optionally to develop, and identify in their proposals, partnerships with ESA-funded investigators. A list of the ESA selectees will be available on the NASA LCLUC website (http://lcluc.hq.nasa.gov) about 45 days prior to the due date of this NASA solicitation. Partnerships with non-ESA funded international investigators are also welcome.

Application Details: Prospective investigators from any category of organizations or institutions, U.S or non-U.S., are welcome to respond to this solicitation.NASA?s policy welcomes the opportunity to conduct research with non-U.S. organizations on a cooperative, no-exchange-of-funds basis. Although Co-Is or collaborators employed by non-U.S. organizations may be identified as part of a proposal submitted by a U.S. organization, NASA funding may not normally be used to support research efforts by non-U.S. organizations at any level.
NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission.
