The ALS Canada-Brain Canada Career Transition Award is a new award for 2015 that provides funding support for a promising young superstar researcher who is either at the senior postdoc level, looking to achieve an assistant professorship position, or a new independent investigator hoping to bolster their career when competing for grants is difficult. This is an investment in the future leaders of the Canadian ALS research community.

Awards will be for up to five (5) years. Typically, the award would support up to two (2) years of postgraduate training and three (3) years as junior faculty. With demonstration of outstanding promise, funding for postdoctoral training may be extended for an additional year. Support at the junior faculty level will be limited to a maximum of three (3) years and will be reduced to two (2) years in the event of a one-year postdoctoral extension.

Application Details: A junior faculty member is defined as someone within three years of beginning a full-time faculty position at a Canadian University at the Assistant Professor level who demonstrates a track record of conducting research in or applicable to ALS. The applicant, either at the postdoctoral or junior faculty level, must demonstrate clear evidence of independent research, showing intellectual contributions to research through his/her publication and presentation record.Complete applications should be submitted via e-mail to Dr. David Taylor, Director of Research, ALS Canada (dt@als.ca). Applications will be accepted until 1 pm EST on April 15th, 2016. Applications should request delivery and read receipts. NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission.
