Description:

A Network of Centres of Excellence for multidisciplinary research into prions and prion diseases. Provides training, network opportunities and facilitates the transfer of research results to commercial uses.

The purpose of PrioNet?s Proof of Principle Program is to support innovation and help investigators working on prion diseases and prion-like protein misfolding diseases advance discoveries/inventions towards commercialization. Applicants are encouraged to use this fund as a source of support for research projects with commercial potential. The fund can be used as a prelude to qualifying for a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Proof of Principle Phase I grant, or as a supplement to other funds secured for the research initiative.

Application Details:

Project funds are dependent upon the continued funding of PrioNet under the NCE program. Researcher must meet the eligibility requirements for funding by the Tri-Council and qualify for membership in PrioNet.

PrioNet?s goal in the call for Proof of Principle Project Proposals is to fund one project from the Integrated Themes: Prion Ecology, Prion Biology, and Prion Preparedness and Prevention that address the most pressing challenges today posed by prion diseases and prion-like protein misfolding diseases that will derive socioeconomic benefits to Canada. PrioNet?s award will provide support up to a maximum of 75% of the total project budget for NCE eligible expenses Research projects must secure cash or in-kind support for at least 25% of the total project budget from external sources (e.g. industry, government, or non-government organizations)

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
