Description:

Fellowships provide support for highly qualified candidates in all areas of health research at the post-PhD or post-health professional degree stages to add to their experience by engaging in health research either in Canada or abroad.

This program was designed with the goal of establishing and nurturing critical links between policy makers and external researchers in support of evidence-based public policy by providing short-term policy assignments. These short-term assignments will provide Fellows with the opportunity to learn about how government works and how public policies are made. For their part, policy-makers will have immediate access to individuals, trained in a particular scientific area, and will be able to engage with them on the scientific/technical aspects of public policy issues.

Application Details: Applications will be accepted in all areas of health research. Candidate must hold, or be completing a PhD or a health professional degree. PRIORITYANNOUNCEMENT FOR SPECIFIC RESEARCH AREA AVAILABLE ON CIHR WEBSITE. The stipend level is dependent upon the number of years of research or clinical training completed since obtaining the health professional degree. Upon completion of two years of postgraduate research training, the awardees may be eligible to receive a stipend increase to the higher level.Prior to preparing an application, applicants must obtain the support of an eligible host branch/directorate/division or organization and sponsoring supervisor. Applications submitted without the support of a sponsoring supervisor will be withdrawn. Detailed descriptions of the policy assignments can be viewed on the Health Canada website.
