Description:

In general, team grants support expert teams of talented and experienced researchers carrying out high-quality research on important health issues best addressed through a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach. These teams provide superior research training and mentorship environments, and support the production of new knowledge and the translation of research findings into improved health and health care.

This funding opportunity on Implementation Research on Hypertension in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs), is the first coordinated research program of the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD). The GACD is the first collaboration of national research funding agencies, which aims to coordinate research activities that will address, on a global scale, the prevention and treatment of chronic non-communicable diseases with a particular focus on the needs of low and middle income countries (LMICs), and on those of low income populations of more developed countries. The Members of the GACD include the Medical Research Councils (MRC) of the United Kingdom and South Africa; the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia (NHMRC); the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR); the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States; and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS).

Application Details:

The application process is comprised of two stages: Letter of Intent and Full Application. CIHR Team Grant proposals will be evaluated as a single, integrated entity. While each research component included in the application must be meritorious, it is critical to demonstrate that the CIHR Team Grant brings added value, in terms of the approach to improving the health of Canadians or strengthening the Canadian health care system.

In order to be considered eligible, teams must include researchers that are based in Canada and LMIC countries, as defined by the World Bank. All countries on this list with the exception of India and China are considered eligible for this competition. Research with Canada's Aboriginal populations is also eligible and in these cases, having international partners is not a requirement. Researchers with Canadian Aboriginal populations may also include co-principal investigators or co-investigators from Australia and/or LMICs for projects focused on indigenous populations. To complete your Application, follow the instructions in the Team Grants/Emerging Team Grants - ResearchNet "Application" Phase Instructions along with any additional instructions found below under "Specific Instructions". Note: Signatures MUST be uploaded for all applicants (Nominated Principal Applicant, Principal Applicant(s), co-applicant(s), knowledge user(s)), and individual(s) with signing authority from the Institution Paid.

INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT LEVIED ON THIS PROGRAM.

NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission.
