Description:

In general, team grants support expert teams of talented and experienced researchers carrying out high-quality research on important health issues best addressed through a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach. These teams provide superior research training and mentorship environments, and support the production of new knowledge and the translation of research findings into improved health and health care.

This Funding Opportunity is a component of the Canadian Epigenetics, Environment and Health Research Consortium (CEEHRC), one of CIHR's Roadmap Signature Initiatives. This multi-agency initiative is led by CIHR, with a number of dedicated funding opportunities planned over the next several years. The specific objectives of the Canada-Japan CEEHRC Teams in Epigenetics of Stem Cells funding opportunity is to achieve high impact scientific results in the epigenetics of stem cells. This includes the transcriptional control of differentiation and the induction of pluripotency. This research may lead to new innovative technologies which could address major challenges in the basic understanding of stem cell activity and function, as well as remove barriers to effective translation of stem cell research for health benefits.

Application Details: CIHR Team Grant proposals will be evaluated as a single, integrated entity. While each research component included in the application must be meritorious, it is critical to demonstrate that the CIHR Team Grant brings added value, in terms of the approach to improving the health of Canadians or strengthening the Canadian health care system. Two co-Principal Applicants (co-Team Leaders) must be identified, one serving as the Canada-based Team Leader (Nominated Principal Applicant), and one as the Japan-based Team Leader. This funding opportunity will comply fully with the policies and guidelines as outlined in the CIHR Grants and Awards Guide.
