Description:

The CIHR Catalyst Grant program provides seed money, on a short-term basis, to support health research activities which represent a first step towards the pursuit of more comprehensive funding opportunities.

The purpose of this funding opportunity is to build capacity in ethics as it applies to health (including health research, health promotion and maintenance, clinical care, population and public health, health systems and services, policy and governance) by encouraging applications from nominated principal applicants (see item number 4 under "Eligibility") who are new investigators in the field of health ethics, or investigators new to the field of health ethics, by offering one or two-year pilot project grants. The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are: To support new investigators in the field of health ethics or investigators new to the field of health ethics, as a first step towards the pursuit of more comprehensive funding opportunities (e.g., operating grants); To promote conceptual and/or empirical research from a wide range of disciplinary perspectives.

Application Details:

Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) will not be considered through this program. For projects of a high risk nature, the potential for great scientific gain should offset the risk of failure. There should be minimal or no overlap with other funded work.

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
