In addition, the networks funded by partners may support CIHR's second strategic direction to address health and health system research priorities.

The objective of this funding opportunity is to support the creation and/or further development of formal networks by encouraging national and/or international collaboration, resource sharing, capacity building and dissemination in priority research areas. Priorities include: 1) enhance patient-oriented care and improve clinical results through scientific and technological innovations; 2) support a high-quality, accessible and sustainable health-care system; 3) reduce health inequities of Aboriginal peoples and other vulnerable populations; 4) prepare for and respond to existing and emerging global threats to health; and 5) promote health and reduce the burden of chronic disease and mental illness. Overall, the networks funded through this initiative will have strong potential to greatly enhance collaboration and the exchange of information between researchers, knowledge users and a variety of organizations in order to achieve impact in research areas aligned with CIHR's priority objectives.
