Description:

The NORD Research Grant Program provides seed-money grants to academic scientists for clinical research. The hope is that these studies will ultimately lead to new diagnostics, treatments, and/or cures for rare disorders.

Grants will be awarded to academic researchers to initiate small scientific research studies or clinical trials, the results of which could be used to obtain funding from NIH, FDA or other funding agencies, or to attract a corporate sponsor. NORD?s program provides grants for the study of diseases for which there are few other sources of funding. In all, seven grants are available in 2011 for the study of the following six diseases: Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma, Corticobasal degeneration, Diffuse Scleroderma, Pseudomyxoma Peritonei, Tarlov Cysts, Trimethylaminuria.

Application Details: Evaluation of proposals will include careful consideration of protocol design, objectiveness of parameters measured, and statistical evaluation proposed. Protocols that will focus on cause, early detection, diagnosis, or treatment (pharmacological, devices, surgery, or dietary) will be given priority.Please send the requested information and mail 14 copies of the application, in addition to the original, with attachments to be received by May 20, 2011, to: National Organization for Rare Disorders, (NORD). Full proposal invitations will be announced, via email, during the second week of July, 2011.
NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
