Sponsor/Award: ONTARIO GENOMICS INSTITUTE - SPARK PROGRAM - 2016 MICROBIOME COMPETITION

Grant Amount: UP TO $25K FOR 3-6 MOS
Deadline: Dean's: Contact your Faculty Research Office for deadline details.
Internal: Oct 25, 2016
Sponsor's: Nov 01, 2016

Subject Areas: Genomics, Microbiome
Description:

With the SPARK program, the Ontario Genomics Institute (OGI) seeks to provide catalytic funding for high-impact, high-risk and/or early-stage technology development in genomics sciences. OGI will provide individual awards of up to $25,000 to be used for short duration (6-12 months) research projects performed in Ontario (at academic, industry or other institutions). Awarded projects will be focused on discrete, unique and transformative technology development relevant to genomics, with outcomes enabling follow-on investment for further research or development.

The intent of the SPARK 2016 competition is to catalyze new research directions and support innovative genomics-based projects that have the potential to advance microbiome research, and improve our knowledge and understanding of this important field. To maximize the potential benefits for Ontario and increase the competitiveness of Ontario research and its life sciences sector, the SPARK 2016: Microbiome competition will be open to research projects involving human, plant, livestock and the environment including soil and water. Successful proposal(s) will enhance our understanding of how microbial communities contribute to health and disease in humans, plants and livestock and also how these communities can influence their environment. The outcomes should generate knowledge which, in the long-term, could be transferred to those who have the ability to translate and use it, ultimately resulting in useful applications in areas such as health care, food production, and environmental remediation.

Application Details:

Funded research must be performed in Ontario. To be eligible, the Principal Investigator (PI) must be at an academic or research institution.

All applications must be submitted electronically to ECorbett@OntarioGenomics.ca no later than 9:00 am on Tuesday, November 1, 2016. Please combine all relevant documents as a single PDF file and reference SPARK 2016 in the subject line of the e-mail.

INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT LEVIED ON THIS PROGRAM

NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission.
