Grand Challenges Explorations fosters innovation in global health research.

Each round of the Grand Challenges Explorations initiative awards grants against a set of specific topic. Topics for Grand Challenges Explorations Round 9 are: New Approaches for the Interrogation of Anti-malarial Compounds, Aid is Working. Tell the World, Explore New Solutions for Global Health Priority Areas, Design New Approaches to Optimize Immunization Systems, Protect Crop Plants from Biotic Stresses From Field to Market.

Application Details: The initiative uses an agile, accelerated grant-making process with short two-page applications and no preliminary data required. Applications are submitted online, and winning grants are chosen approximately 4 months from the submission deadline. Initial grants of $100,000 are awarded two times a year. Successful projects have the opportunity to receive a follow-on grant of up to $1 million.All applications must be submitted through their online system. Proposals are due May 15, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time.
NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission.
