The Ontario Research Fund Research Excellence (ORF-RE) program promotes research excellence in Ontario by supporting transformative, internationally significant research of strategic value to the province.
The ORF-RE focuses on scientific excellence, strong commercialization, and strategic value to Ontario, and targets new, leading-edge research initiatives. All proposals are required to provide a rationale as to why an investment in their research project is important to Ontario.
Applicants are expected to demonstrate meaningful and verifiable private sector commitment, through private sector financial/cash and/or in-kind contributions and evidence of the private sector's vested interest in the research. While research proposals in all disciplines are eligible for ORF-RE Round 6, the Ministry particularly encourages collaborative projects across institutions from the following focus areas: Bio-economy and clean technologies; Advanced health technologies; Digital media and information & communications technologies; Sustainable communities (multidisciplinary research including but not limited to the topic(s) of ageing, energy, health, environmental sustainability, regional economic development and/or economic prosperity for all). |

Application Details: |
The program will contribute towards eligible costs to a maximum of 1/3 of the total project costs, with 1/3 of the remainder coming from the applicant institution(s) and 1/3 from the private sector. Institutional and private sector contributions to direct costs can be cash or in-kind. The Ministry of Research and Innovation requires all prospective applicant institutions to submit a Notice of Intent (NoI) to propose for an ORF-RE grant no later than October 14, 2011. The overview paragraph of a proposal, required for each NoI, will be posted on the ORF-RE web site to enable institutions to identify opportunities for collaboration. A Notice of Intent is to be submitted by an eligible institution and must be signed by the Vice-President of Research or any other officer with authority to bind the institution. A signed original and an electronic copy of the NoI must be received and/or postmarked no later than October 14, 2011. **Please NOTE: Westerns Mandatory INTERNAL DEADLINE TO RD&S: 7 October 2011 ***

NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission. |
