Description:

The Early Researcher Award program (ERA) helps promising, recently-appointed Ontario researchers build their research teams of graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, research assistants and associates. Each award to a leading researcher is a maximum of $100,000 and must be matched by an additional $50,000 from the researcher?s institution and/or a private sector partner.

The goal of the program is to improve Ontario's ability to attract and retain the best and brightest research talent. Researchers must be no more than 5 years from having started their independent academic research career, as of July 1, 2010

Application Details:

A NOI must be submitted. The NOI that is is not binding and will not be assessed by the Ministry but it is a mandatory part of the application process. The Ministry of Research and Innovation (the Ministry) generally defines independent academic research appointment as a position where a researcher from an eligible institution is capable of independently publishing, supervising, and applying for funding.

The Ministry of Research and Innovation requires institutional research offices to email a Notice of Intent (NoI) for each ERA applicant in MS Word format by 4:00pm Friday August 6, 2010. The NoI is not binding and will not be assessed by the Ministry but it is an important part of the application process.

INDIRECT COSTS OF $40,000 MUST BE INCLUDED IN THE BUDGET

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
