Description:

The PMRF program focuses on translational research that falls into the ?funding gap? between basic science usually supported by the traditional granting agencies and clinical development mainly supported by the private sector. It aims to support research, based on excellence, in areas relevant to the scientific understanding of cancer genetics, genomics, biology, treatment and management of cancer patients; areas that need to be integrated to optimize patient management.

The PMRF program supports studies that will address predictive and prognostic genetic tests; identify biomarkers and more informative diagnostic/treatment monitoring tools; and propose applications of novel agents and new technologies (including informatics tools) to clinical development and commercialization. Studies examining the mechanics of novel anti-cancer agents, validation of new targets, and efficacy of innovative drugs or novel uses of existing drugs are types of research supported through this initiative. Through the program, OICR aims to support the advancement of novel anti-cancer therapeutics and new predictive assays from the laboratory into the clinic, and to test their promise in early clinical studies.

Application Details:

Principal Investigators (PIs) applying for a grant from the PMRF must hold an academic or research appointment at an Eligible Host Institution and meet the minimum qualifications of the Eligible Host Institution to receive external independent research funding. The PI will take overall responsibility for the scientific conduct of the Project, including any portions of the project conducted at Co-applicant Institutions.

Applicants should not include a value for indirect costs (i.e., overhead for facilities and administrative costs) to the proposed budget at the time of the application. OICR will add 30 per cent of the proposed budget to all successful PMRF grants to cover institutional overhead. The total amount of the Grant that can be allocated for overhead will be listed in the Notice of Award issued to the Host Institution. Awards for equipment and services are not eligible to incur overhead/indirect costs. OICR accepts Registrations of Intent and Full Applications (FA) through a web-enabled electronic grants management system, CaAwardNet. The online system has been implemented to enhance the management, review and approval of submissions to OICR. Please refer to the CaAwardNet Guidelines for details on ROI and FA online submission procedures. Only applicants whose ROI was submitted between October 15, 2010 and November 1, 2010 and was determined to be eligible will be invited to submit a Full Application (FA).

INDIRECT COSTS WILL BE ADDED AFTER FUNDING AWARDED

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
