Grand Challenges Explorations (GCE) supports hundreds of early-stage research projects ? including many ideas that have never before been tested and scientists from a wide range of disciplines and regions. The Explorations initiative funds innovative ideas that could lead to new vaccines, diagnostics, drugs, and other technologies targeting diseases that claim millions of lives every year. Phase I grants of $100,000 USD are awarded initially; successful projects have an opportunity to receive a follow-on Phase II grant of up to $1,000,000 USD. The term of the Phase I grants expires 18 months from the project start date. |

Application Details: |
Your proposal must represent an innovative approach that is responsive to the topic. The foundation has a number of other avenues of funding for the equally important research that is within currently accepted paradigms. Such work will not be funded under Grand Challenges Explorations. We encourage you to use the provided application form, which can be downloaded at: Explorations Application Form. You are required to submit either a Microsoft Word? or PDF document; no more than 2 pages in length. References to academic publications are not required and, if included, must fall within the 2-page limit. Please do not include a cover sheet with your proposal. A cover sheet will be automatically generated from your registration data.INDIRECT COSTS ARE NOT SUPPORTED BY THIS PROGRAM. |

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. |
