Description:

The Center for Retirement Research sponsors the annual Steven H. Sandell Grant Program for scholars in the field of retirement income and disability insurance research.

Junior scholars within the first ten years of their academic career and tenured scholars entering a new field are encouraged to submit a proposal. The program, funded by a grant from the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA), will award up to seven grants of $45,000.

Application Details:

The program?s purpose is to promote research by junior scholars and senior scholars entering the field. Topics include: (1) Social Security, retirement income and disability insurance; (2) macroeconomic analyses of Social Security; (3) wealth and retirement income; (4) program interactions; (5) international research; and (6) demographic research. No affiliation with the CRR is necessary to apply. The PI and Co-PI must be junior scholar(s) who are within the first 1?10 years of completing their Ph.D. or comparable professional certification. The scholar must be employed full-time at an academic or research institution.

Proposals should not exceed 12 pages. Twelve-point, Times New Roman font, 1.5 line spacing, and 1-inch margins are required. Equipment is not allowed under the Sandell Grant Program. Please see guidelines for further details. All applicants must complete the online submission form found at the Center?s website. Grant applicants have the option to submit two letters of support for their proposal. Letters should discuss the qualifications of the applicant to conduct the research outlined in the proposal and advocate for the proposed project. Letters must be submitted through the online system by the person writing the letter at the Center?s website.

INDIRECT COSTS OF 10% MUST BE INCLUDED IN THE PROJECT BUDGET

NOTE: Letters of Intent and Full Applications are to be processed through Research Development Services for institutional signatures, and are to be accompanied by a completed RDAF form (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean signatures). Requests for Institutional signatures should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline.
