World Rugby has established a World Rugby Research Strategy to provide structure and support to the identification and implementation of World Rugby research priorities.

The following topics have been identified as priorities for research by the World Rugby Medical Science and Research Group: Concussion: Education of different stakeholders; Long term neurodegenerative and mental complications; Surveillance; Identifying the best diagnostic tool; Evaluation of the head impact forces during match play and training for all. Injuries: Prevention strategies; Long term consequences; Acute ? contact and non-contact; Community game; Professional game. Player loads and impacts on welfare and safety: Game numbers and characterization of game demands

Application Details:

The application process for research funding from World Rugby has three stages: -Initial concept approval; -Full project plan assessment; and -Ethical Approval (not applicable in all cases). All applications must be made in English and budgets submitted in pounds sterling.

NOTE: All Letters of Intent and Full Applications must be processed through Research Development & Services for institutional approval. Requests for Institutional approvals should be received no less than 3 days prior to the posted Sponsor deadline. A ROLA Proposal (bearing applicant, Chair and Dean electronic approvals) is required for each submission.
