Western is pleased to introduce two new programs of excellence that support its mandate of expanding research capacity and impact at the global scale within specific, strategic areas of established research strength. These include:
The Western Clusters of Research Excellence program supports the development of up to four internationally prominent clusters of research and training. These Clusters are expected to provide a sustainable platform for:
The University will invest $5 million over five years in each cluster, align Canada Research Chairs as justified, and provide additional support for strategically aligned endowed chairs. These funds are available for:
Proposals for Western Clusters of Research Excellence will be invited following consultation with deans and Research Western. The first identified Western Cluster of Research Excellence is Cognitive Neuroscience.
Projects identified to proceed beyond the Letter of Intent phase to full application include:
Modeled after the Canada Research Chairs program, and in direct support of Cluster development, the Western Research Chairs program will lead to the recruitment of up to 10 mid- to senior-level researchers to build capacity, enhance collaborative and interdisciplinary research and produce research results with global implications.
