Two points of view of the Russian meteorite

Following up on the reports of the Chelyabinsk meteor,  Dr. Peter Wiegert of the Department of Physics and Astronomy has produced two videos of the event offering different vantage points.

The first is the view of the meteor as it would have been seen from the asteroid itself during its final hour: the red dot at the end is the Russian city of Chelyabinsk that suffered the worst of the effects.

The second animation shows the orbit of the asteroid (in red) during the last few years right up to impact, and was featured on a recent Nova episode with Dr. Peter Brown and Dr. Margaret Campbell-Brown and others.
