Always exercise caution when reading emails regarding 'job opportunities'. Many are fraudulent. Legitimate companies will always identify themselves, have a legitimate business email address, and will never ask for a fee to apply. If the job opportunity seems to good to be true, it probably is. If you are unsure whether a job opportunity email you've received is legitimate, contact ahintern@uwo.ca.

Community Research Specialist, Start Proud
Start Proud is a non-profit united by a common purpose: to empower and uplift the next generation of 2SLGBTQIA+ leaders in Canada by creating environments where everyone can succeed and thrive personally and professionally.
This internship opportunity will provide countless opportunities for networking, finding new career opportunities, and professional development.
Internship Description
The Community Research Specialist intern will help generate original thought leadership for Start Proud to better understand our core stakeholder needs, in particular 2SLGBTQIA+ talent pipeline issues in a dynamic social context.
They will conduct a literature review on the experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ students/student groups in Canada, including what determines success, where barriers exist, what models of mentorship are most efficient, how students find resilience in their workplaces. They will also conduct primary qualitative research, including the development of a sound methodology, with 2SLGBTQIA+ students/student groups in South-Western Ontario Universities and Post-Secondary Institutions to build upon the literature review and develop original findings to help Start Proud determine the needs of our student demographic, including barriers to transition to meaningful careers, mentorship, and sponsorship.
The intern will consider the role of organizations like Start Proud in helping 2SLGBTQIA+ students and young professionals transition to meaningful careers. Ideally, the student will also have some experience working on marketing, promotions, external facing communications to help position the findings emerging from this research into blog posts, interviews, vlogs, etc. and help with marketing for events.
This internship is remote, but there will be many opportunities to travel to areas in the London and GTA for networking events and other professional events. Supervisors will also be available to meet twice a month, in-person if required.

Western Work Study
Western’s Work Study program offers an opportunity for students to work part-time on campus in jobs that accommodate their studies. The objectives of the Work Study program are: to assist students in financial need with a regular source of income, offer students training and experience that will assist them in further studies and their eventual entrance into the workforce, and to help staff and faculty. Financial need is determined in a manner similar to the Canada and Ontario Student Loans assessment. It involves assessing the costs of the program the student is registered in, based on advice from our students, and the resources available to them.
Eligibility
To be eligible for Work Study, you must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, and demonstrate a genuine financial need. If you are applying in Fall/Winter, you must be registered at main campus in a minimum 60% course load (40% course load for students with disabilities).
Work Study is generally not offered to first year students, as their financial need is met through the Admission Bursary process, and Work Study assistance would decrease the amount of Admission Bursary assistance. For special circumstances for international or graduate students, please see below.
Note: Students registered at an affiliated college are not eligible for the main campus Work Study program during the Fall/Winter academic term. If you are attending at an affiliate, please check with your college for information regarding available Work Study.
How to Apply
The Bursary, Work Study & Need Based Award programs are all based on financial need, and are all applied for via the Financial Assistance Profile Application. The Fall/Winter 2024-25 application will be available through the Student Center at the end of August. Once logged into your Student Center, click Student Financials > Financial Aid and Funding > Apply for Financial Assistance > Click here to Apply for Financial Assistance to access the application.
Application Deadlines
The deadline to apply for work study for the Fall/Winter term is February 28.
