Women's Football Club

Description

What’s so special about WWFC? And why should I join WWFC? (Western Women’s Football Club)

WWFC is one of a kind because of the energetic, supportive, and competitive environment that the coaches and members have created. We are a big family that loves football and is committed to everyone's success. We are advocates for women in sport and football across the country and have developed one of the best Club programs in Canada.

We are a group of women who have either grown up playing football or have never played the game before. If you can demonstrate leadership, hard work, and a positive attitude, we would love to have you as part of our Club.

Our Club provides all women-identifying members a flag football opportunity on campus including weekly practices, social activities, and fitness. All you need to do is register.
  1. General Members: open to all women-identifying students focused on skill development, learning the game, and intersquad competition.
    • Training camp
    • 2 practices per week
    • Social events
    • Inter-squad & local competition
    • Fall/Winter or Full Year memberships available
  2. Competition and Travel: up to 50 General Members selected based on coachability, leadership, football experience, and athleticism for travel and competition. These members will have all the perks of being a General Member plus the following:
    • 1 extra practice per week
    • Travelling tournaments
    • Additional travel fees
    • Registration in the Club for the full year will be required (i.e., Full Year Membership, or Fall and Winter Memberships)

All athletes start as General Members with our Club program. Training camp is designed to identify members for the competitive roster early. However, the following weeks of training will also be used to determine those selected to the competitive travel roster. Those selected will be announced prior to Oct 22nd. By this time, members will be invited to continue attending practices on Thursdays and General Members will practice Tuesdays and Saturdays. Throughout the Club season, General Members may have the opportunity to be invited to Thursday practices.

We are the reigning provincial champions, so why would you not want to be part of our team?!

No experience is required to join WWFC, so please reach out if you have any questions here! womensfootballclub@groups.uwo.ca

About the President

Hi, I’m Ryleigh Van Neck, a 2nd year Master’s Student in Physiology and Pharmacology. I am going into my third year with the Women’s Football Club. Last year I was the Outreach Coordinator for the Club and I am so excited to take on this new role. I am a defender and my position changes from linebacker to corner depending on the format of football we are playing. Finding football and my family sincerely changed my life and I encourage you to check us out! You won’t regret it.

Past Events

The WWFC is part of the Ontario Women’s Intercollegiate Football Association (OWIFA). We compete annually in OWIFA – partners with Football Ontario – and are the current 11v11 Provincial Champions and 5v5 Provincial Champions. In 5v5, two of our teams placed in the top three this year, awarding us a spot in a national tournament where we competed against teams from across Canada. The WWFC is not only a family on the field but also off the field. Each year we host team socials and a banquet where we celebrate and commemorate members of the team for their hard work and dedication.
