Video Practical Evaluation Cheat Sheet
As you begin to prepare for your video evaluation, please take a few moments to review the information below. By becoming familiar with these requirements and tips you will increase your chances of executing a successful practical evaluation.
Equipment Requirements
- DSLR camera,or webcam, mobile phone with video recording capabilities
- Tripod or other apparatus to hold the camera immobile
Video Recording Requirments
Video Recording Consent
- By submitting your practical evaluation video you give consent for CCAA Staff to review the recording for certification purposes
- The use of participants in the video is optional – It is the instructor's responsibility to obtain consent from any participant before recording the session
Camera Position
- Side, front or rear angles are all acceptable
- The instructor should be in the frame at all times (unless taking a water break or helping a participant with technique)
Audio
- The instructor's voice should be clear and easy to understand
- The music should be a background sound, but loud enough to hear over other ambient noise
Length
Video should contain all components of fitness and align with the SFIC standard (total length: 60-75 minutes). The timer starts at the beginning of the warm-up.
- Warm-up: 5 minutes
- Cardiorespiratory Endurance: 20+ minutes
- Cardiorespiratory Cool Down: 5 minutes
- Muscular Training: 15+ minutes
- Balance: 5 minutes
- Flexibility: 5 minutes
Editing
Videos do not need to be edited, the evaluator does not expect to see professional quality videography throughout the evaluation. The evaluator is looking for a safe, effective exercise class that aligns with the standards described in the SFIC training and manual.
Submitting the video for evaluation
- Transfer video or Zoom recording digitally to ccaa.certification@uwo.ca using an online service like
- Upload video to YouTube or Vimeo and share the private video link with the SFIC Evaluator (this method carries a risk of YouTube removing the video due to music use permission requirements)
Please note: videos are not archived at the CCAA, they are deleted after the evaluation is completed
Tips
- Login to MyCCAA to pay the $50.00+tax evaluation fee online prior to submitting the video for evaluation to ensure a quick turnaround (visit the FAQ page for more information)
- The fee includes video evaluation and a telephone feedback session with the evaluator, completed evaluation form can also be provided upon request
- Video evaluations are completed within two weeks of submission, allow for this processing time if the certification deadline is approaching
- View your video before submitting, use the practical evaluation form to evaluate yourself
- In order to successfully complete the practical evaluation all component criteria must be marked as Exceeds expectations or Meets expectations ONE Does not meet expectation is permitted
- Candidates who do not successfully complete the initial evaluation my submit another for evaluation prior to the certification deadline, there is a $50 fee for each additional online practical evaluation
