Welcome!
Empathy is about standing in someone else's shoes, feeling with his or her heart, seeing with his or her eyes. Not only is empathy hard to outsource and automate, but it makes the world a better place. - Daniel H. Pink
The Evoking Empathy Aging Simulation Lab was created by six generations of Western University students in the Aging Body course at the School of Health Studies, under the guidance of Dr. Aleksandra Zecevic and dedicated teaching assistants. In 2020, the Lab transitioned online, expanding accessibility and allowing more people to engage with this unique learning experience.
Step Into the Aging Experience
Aging is a journey that every person will experience, yet many of its challenges remain unseen. This interactive educational tool gives you the opportunity to step into the shoes of an older adult and experience firsthand the physical, sensory, and cognitive changes that come with aging. Through these engaging simulations, you will gain deeper insights into the realities older individuals face—fostering understanding, respect, and compassion while shaping a more inclusive and age-friendly society.
Your Role in This Experience
The Aging Simulation Lab is fully interactive, encouraging self-reflection as you navigate each scenario. Take your time, immerse yourself, and consider how these experiences might impact daily life. If any activity becomes uncomfortable, you are welcome to skip it—your safety, comfort and well-being are first priority.
We value your thoughts! Your feedback and reflections help us improve this experience, ensuring it continues to be meaningful and impactful for future participants.
Thank You for Participating!
By engaging with this simulation, you are helping build a society that values, respects, and understands aging. Your willingness to explore these experiences promotes empathy, connection, and positive change.
Let’s create a world where aging is met with dignity, compassion, and respect.
Sincerely,
Health Sciences Students in Aging Body course
