Academic Pavilion
Located at Western’s West Campus, the Academic Pavilion officially opened its doors in September 2019 as the home of experiential learning for the Brescia School of Food and Nutritional Sciences, one of seven Schools of the Faculty of Health Sciences. The School is home to more than 400 undergraduate students, enrolled in programs in Nutrition and Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition, and Family Studies and Human Development.
The award-winning, state-of-the-art facility, is surrounded by forest and nature on all sides, and boasts six labs, three classrooms, and ample student lounge and study spaces. The spacious atrium on the ground floor is centrally located to the two Food Preparation Labs, Commercial Kitchen, and Sensory Lab. Designed to allow “science [to be] on display,” floor-to-ceiling glass walls offer a view into the teaching and research activities taking place inside. A separate graduate student lounge offers graduate students in the MScFN project-based program a private space for collaboration and studying.
On the second floor, expansive skylights fill the central hall and adjacent rooms with daylight. On this floor, you will find the Food Science Lab, Research Lab, and Nutrition Counselling Room, along with several classrooms, and a bright and welcoming student lounge with hilltop views of the surrounding forest and downtown London skyline beyond.
While the labs are primarily used for teaching and research activities within the School, special events, including an annual International Week Cooking Showdown, cooking seminars, high school field trips, and sensory evaluations welcome members of the community to come and participate.

The cornerstone of our school
Our food labs are the cornerstone of our School. They are places where learning, creativity, and a sense of belonging all come together. They are bustling with activity, and the smells...!
