Internship

An internship provides students with an opportunity to work in career-related placements to expand their skills, build their network and resume, and gain impactful work experience.

Overview

  • Open to students who have completed their second year (and all required coursework) and have a minimum cumulative average of 70% or higher
  • 4, 8, 12, or 16 months
  • Full-time
  • Paid
  • Offered in the Fall, Winter, and/or Summer terms
  • Domestic or international

Eligibility will be assessed for each student individually. Students must return after the internship concludes for a minimum of 3.5 credits.

Please note that 4-month internships must be a minimum of 10 weeks, with a minimum of 30 hours per week to be eligible to count for credit.

NOTE: At this time, international students are not eligible for an internship.

Application Process

All students must complete the following application package before applying to internships:

  1. Internship Application
  2. Resume
  3. Certificate of completion (screenshot) of the Developing an Effective Cover Letter and Resume module

Email these to experiencefhs@uwo.ca. We will then verify your eligibility and contact you.

Once confirmed, eligible students will get access to the internship portal on Western Connect. Internship postings that are obtained by the Experiential Learning Team will be posted here. Application requirements will vary by position (all requirements will be listed in the posting on Western Connect).

Students may also find their own internship opportunities – through networking with potential employers or searching for internship postings online. All internship opportunities need to be submitted to the Experiential Learning Team for approval.

To view open internship opportunities on Western Connect:

Log into Western Connect with your Western User ID and password.

On the Dashboard on the left menu, click “Internship/Co-op”.

Click “Intern/Co-op Jobs”, and then “For My Program”. Here, you will see all internship opportunities that Health Sciences has been tagged in.

From there, click on individual job postings to see the description, application deadline and requirements.

You can also search for opportunities using the job posting ID (which you may receive in mass emails from the EL team). Simply write the ID in the field below and press "Search”:

Once you click on a job posting, follow the application instructions (which vary by posting).

Students may also locate their own internship opportunities – through networking with potential employers or searching for internship postings online. All internship opportunities need to be submitted to the Experiential Learning team for approval.

IMPORTANT: If you have a summer job in a field that’s related to your module, contact experiencefhs@uwo.ca to see if it’s eligible to count for credit!
