Family Studies and Human Development

- Family Studies 1010A/B – Introduction to Families and Human Development
- Family Studies 1015A/B – Close Relationships
- 1.0 from Psychology 1000-level courses OR 1.0 from Sociology 1000-level courses
- 3.0 electives
In order to progress into the Major or Specialization in Family Studies after first year, students must achieve the following:
- A minimum grade of 60% in each of: Family Studies 1010A/B and Family Studies 1015A/B
- A minimum grade of 60% in: 1.0 from Psychology 1000-level courses OR 1.0 from Sociology 1000-level courses
- Pass all electives
- Students need to complete at least 1.0 courses from each of the three categories (A, B, and C). The categories and the details on breadth requirements can be found in the Western Calendar.
- Students need to complete at least 2.0 designated essay courses, with at least 1.0 of which being senior courses (numbered 2000 - 4999). Essay credits are designated with E (1.0) or F/G/Z (0.5).
- Essay and breadth requirements are a degree requirement and do not need to be completed in year 1.
In order to progress into the Honours Specialization in Family Studies after first year, students must achieve the following:
- A minimum grade of 60% in each of: Family Studies 1010A/B and Family Studies 1015A/B
- A minimum grade of 60% in: 1.0 from Psychology 1000-level courses OR 1.0 from Sociology 1000-level courses
- A minimum modular average of 70% in the 2.0 principal courses: Family Studies 1010A/B, Family Studies 1015A/B, 1.0 from Psychology 1000-level courses OR 1.0 from Sociology 1000-level courses
- Pass all electives
