In the Foods & Nutrition program, you will study a wide range of concepts related to food and nutrition. Whether you are interested in learning about the impact the food industry has on our global world; in understanding the societal determinants of health; in researching the chemical composition of food; or exploring how cultures can influence food habits – in our Foods & Nutrition program, you decide!

- Foods and Nutrition 1241A/B – Lifecyle Nutrition
- Physiology 1021 – Introduction to Human Physiology
- Biology 1290B – Biology and Microorganisms
- Chemistry 1301A/B – Discovering Chemical Structure
- Chemistry 1302A/B – Discovering Chemical Energetics
- 1.5 electives
Specialization
In order to progress into the Specialization in Foods & Nutrition after first year, students must achieve the following:
- A minimum grade of 60% in each of: Foods & Nutrition 1070A/B and Foods & Nutrition 1241A/B
- A minimum grade of 60% in each of: Biology 1290B, Chemistry 1301A/B, Chemistry 1302A/B, and Physiology 1021
- A minimum grade of 50% in all electives
- Students need to complete at least 1.0 courses from each of the three categories (A, B, and C). The categories and the details on breadth requirements can be found in the Western Calendar.
- Students need to complete at least 2.0 designated essay courses, with at least 1.0 of which being senior courses (numbered 2000 - 4999). Essay credits are designated with E (1.0) or F/G/Z (0.5).
- Essay and breadth requirements are a degree requirement and do not need to be completed in year 1.
Honours Specialization
In order to progress into the Honours Specialization in Foods & Nutrition after first year, students must achieve the following:
- A minimum grade of 60% in each of: Foods & Nutrition 1070A/B and Foods & Nutrition 1241A/B
- A minimum grade of 60% in each of: Biology 1290B, Chemistry 1301A/B, Chemistry 1302A/B, Physiology 1021
- A minimum modular average of 70% in the 3.5 principal courses: Foods & Nutrition 1070A/B, Foods & Nutrition 1241A/B, Biology 1290B, Chemistry 1301A/B, Chemistry 1302A/B and Physiology 1021
- A minimum grade of 50% in all electives
