Nutrition & Dietetics

Studnets in lab coats and hair nets are working in a food lab, cutting vegetable and working on other food preparation.

Are you fascinated by the role foods and nutrition play in maintaining health and preventing and treating disease? Are you interested in learning how food decisions, whether personal or through policy, impact your day-to-day life?

When you study Nutrition & Dietetics, you will have the opportunity to explore your passion for nutrition while gaining a strong foundation for a career in nutrition and dietetics.

The Nutrition & Dietetics program is accredited by the Partnership for Dietetic Education and Practice (PDEP) and prepares graduates for application to a dietetic practicum program that can lead to registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) by the professional regulating body, the College of Dietitians of Ontario (CDO). This module supports the attainment of the Integrated Competencies for Dietetic Education (ICDEP) at the undergraduate level as required by PDEP.

In this accredited program, you will examine food safety, learn clinical nutrition from assessment to therapy, create a nutrition education program plan and improve your food skills in our commercial kitchen.

Under the guidance of experienced professors, you will also have the opportunity to take elective courses to further develop your areas of interest, including sensory evaluation of food, nutrition and physical activity, and policy development and advocacy.

Your Nutrition & Dietetics experience expands beyond the classroom. You will have the opportunity to work with our faculty to gain first-hand experience in research that is directly impacting local and global communities.

Also, you can volunteer with our many student clubs that support leadership and community-service learning opportunities to put your knowledge into practice. These clubs partner with many local agencies dedicated to supporting food and nutrition initiatives within our community, from children to aging adults. After you graduate, the valuable connections you have made with food and nutrition professionals will give you a head start in your career.
