Graduate Conference Travel Award
The Conference Travel Award is a fund created by Western University's Faculty of Arts and Humanities’ Department of Philosophy to support all registered Philosophy graduate students as they continue to participate in academic conferences by presenting papers or participate in formal research. All applications are subject to approval by the Philosophy Graduate Chair. Applicants must be actively registered full-time and in good standing in the Department of Philosophy graduate program at the time of expense claim submission

Before their proposed travel, students should submit a Pre-Approval Application for Graduate Conference Travel in order to receive pre-approval for funding reimbursement. The Pre-Approval Application deadline is March 15, 2023. The form can be accessed here: https://forms.office.com/r/ii5EvL9n4L

After the travel has been completed, students should submit a Reimbursement Application for Graduate Travel no later than 60 days after they've traveled. The form can be accessed here: https://forms.office.com/r/NPsepLLyVk

The amount of funding available to each student will be advised as close as possible to the beginning of the current fiscal year. For the 2022-23 fiscal year (1 May - 30 April), the amount will be $600 per student. When submitting an expense claim students must include receipts to document this amount. Equally, they should retain in their possession any receipts that exceed this amount. Even though these excess receipts cannot be reimbursed at the time, they can be made the subject of a supplemental expense claim later if more funding becomes available.

Notes:

  • Travel must abide by current Western University protocols.
  • If the funds are to be used for travel expenses, the student must present a paper or commentary at a conference or be participating in research that is relevant to the student’s academic research area.
  • Registration and membership fees for attendance at academic conferences relevant to a student’s research may be approved under Non-Travel Expenses. Attendance at the conference must still abide by current Western University travel protocols.
  • Administrative staff must follow travel & expense reimbursement guidelines as outlined by Western’s Finance Department.

If you are unsure if your expense is eligible, please ask Sarah Murdoch (sarah.murdoch@uwo.ca) or Elisa Kilbourne (finelb@uwo.ca).
