Western values the contributions undergraduate students make to helping foster a culture of research excellence on campus, while gaining experiential learning opportunities to advance their careers. How do you get involved? Undergraduate students often become engaged in research by:
- Discussing opportunities with your faculty advisor
- Identifying a potential faculty member with whom you'd like to work, and contacting them
- Participating in opportunities offered by Western's work study program

Undergraduate Student Research Internships Program: Provides undergraduate students with engaged research experiences and opportunities to learn new research methods and techniques alongside faculty mentors. |
Head & Heart Program: Aims to open space for Indigenous students to use Indigenous Knowledge systems and language within undergraduate summer research projects across a wide variety of academic disciplines. |
NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Awards: Meant to nurture your interest and fully develop your potential for a research career in the natural sciences and engineering. A USRA is held full-time for 16 weeks. |
World's Challenge Challenge: Competition helps students develop academic, oral presentation and entrepreneurial skills, all while encouraging you to take action on global issues and challenges. |

Academic Joint Fund for Support of Graduate Student Research and Scholarship: Initiated to help support the creation of events that bring external participants to share their research and interact with Western's graduate students. | BrainsCAN Graduate Studentship Program: Developed to attract the most promising prospective master’s and doctoral students in cognitive neuroscience. Open to prospective graduate students not enrolled in a graduate program at Western. |
Western Postdoctoral Fellowships Program: Provides funding to the very best postdoctoral applicants, nationally and internationally, who will contribute positively to research excellence at the university and help advance Western's strategic research plan.
