The School of Kinesiology offers the following awards:

Merit-based Awards

Awarded annually to a fourth year honors Kinesiology student who has demonstrated leadership qualities as a member of a university varsity or intramural team or through community involvement, and has shown a genuine concern for others.

Awarded annually to a second year honors Kinesiology student (entering third year honors Kinesiology) who has demonstrated leadership qualities as a member of a university varsity or intramural team or as a member of student council, and has shown a genuine concern for others.

Awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student entering fourth year in Kinesiology student who has a high level of involvement in extra-curricular activities such as varsity athletics, campus recreation or student government. The recipient should also demonstrate leadership, engagement, perseverance and commitment to their studies and campus life.

Awarded annually to an undergraduate student in any year beyond year one in Kinesiology, Nursing or the Bachelor of Health Sciences program, who has achieved at least a 75% average while demonstrating leadership in the community and participating in extra-curricular activities. Application forms are available from the Office of the Registrar and must be submitted no later than September 30. Recipients will be chosen by the Faculty of Health Sciences Scholarship Committee. Established in 1997 through the generosity of Western parents.

About the Award
Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student who is entering second year or beyond in the School of Nursing, Kinesiology or Health Studies, and who is participating in a rural placement. Recipients will be selected based on academic standing and demonstrated financial need. This award was established by Marnie Denyes, Elizabeth McInnis, Kate McInnis and Sara McInnis.

How to Apply
Applicants must submit a one-page statement outlining projected accommodation and travel costs to the appropriate School office by March 1 (fhsdean@uwo.ca). The Faculty of Health Sciences will select the recipient.

About the Award
Awarded annually to a student in Year 4 in the Faculty of Health Sciences, based on academic achievement (minimum 80% average) and leadership shown through extra curricular activities.

Needs-based Awards

Awarded to an undergraduate student in the School of Kinesiology based on financial need. Preference will be given to candidates who self-identify as belonging to any equity-deserving group. Online financial assistance applications are available through Student Center and must be submitted by October 31st. The Office of the Registrar will select the recipients. This bursary was made possible by generous gifts from undergraduate students through by the Kinesiology Students’ Association. Value: 2 at $2,000 awarded annually Effective: 2023-2024 academic year

Available to a student in the Faculty of Kinesiology who is in financial need. Established in honour of Charlie Box by his family through Foundation Western. Value: 1 at $1,100 Effective: 2023-2024 academic year

Awarded to a student in Kinesiology in the Faculty of Health Sciences based on financial need. Applications can be accessed online through Student Center and must be submitted by October 31. The Office of the Registrar will determine financial need and select the recipient. Value: 1 at $750 Effective Date: 2017-2018 academic year This award is offered through the Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund (OSOTF) program, and recipients must meet Ontario residency requirements.

Available to students registering in the third or fourth year of the Honours Specialization in Kinesiology with demonstrated financial need. Established through Foundation Western. Value: 2 at $1,200 Effective: 2023-2024 academic year

Awarded to full-time undergraduate students in the Faculty of Health Sciences based on financial need. Preference will be given to candidates in the School of Kinesiology. Value: 1 at $1,350, awarded annually Effective: 2024-2025 academic year This award was established by family and friends in memory of Scott Mackenzie who had a passion for understanding the human body and inspiring others to live their healthiest lives.
