Modules

Students in the Film Studies program acquire the skills in critical thinking shaped by both disciplinary and interdisciplinary scholarship on film which prepares them for a career in a variety of cultural and educational sectors. We offer several specializations and degree options including a hands-on Community Service Learning component and internship option.

HONOURS SPECIALIZATION IN FILM STUDIES

Please note the following changes to this module:

Any student who requires Film 2252F/G to fulfill the requirements for a module in Film Studies may substitute CLC 2700G (aka Film 2191G).

Film 2200F/G and Film 2250F/G have been removed from the film modules. If you took either course previously, they will now be counted toward the elective portion of your module.

Film 2251E and Film 2253E have been replaced by Film 2252F/G - World Cinema and Film 2254F/G - American Cinema. If you took either 2251E or 2253E previously, you are not required to take their replacements. A half credit (0.5) will be counted towards the new course and the remaining half added to the elective portion of your module.

Admission Requirements:

Completion of first-year requirements with no failures. Students must have an average of at least 70% in 3.0 principal courses, including 1.0 from Film Studies 1000-1999, with no mark in these principal courses below 60%.

The Minor in Film Studies is intended for students who want a rigorous program of film study compatible with potential upgrading to Major and Honors Specialization modules in Film Studies.

MINOR IN GENERAL CINEMA STUDIES

The Minor in General Cinema Studies is intended for students who want a general program of film study with maximum choice and flexibility. Students who might consider upgrading to Major and Honors Specialization modules in Film Studies should take the Minor in Film Studies.

Completion of first-year requirements, including Film Studies 1020E or Film Studies 1022 with a mark of at least 60%.

MINOR IN PAGE, STAGE AND SCREEN NEW!

This interdisciplinary module allows students to take courses across the five programs housed in English and Writing Studies: English, Writing, Film, Theatre, and Medieval Studies. Students can pursue interest-led studies across the programs while exploring core themes of genre and form, storytelling and adaptation through their own work and the work of others.

Admission Requirements:

Completion of first-year requirements, including Writing 1000F/G and 1.0 course in either English 1020-1999 or Film Studies 1000-1999, with a mark of at least 60%.
